Come What May...And Love It!!!

The only way to start out my blog is to explain why I chose "Come What May...And Love It" as my title.  Well, back in October of 2008, there was a general conference talk given with this same title by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin.  From what I remember, this was the first time I had actually listened AND learned from the conference talks.  I remember sitting on a bus on my way to my first competition for my colorguard team and band.  I pulled out my phone and earphones and the first thing that came on through the radio was the general conference broadcast.  Back then, I would have flipped through the stations until I found some relaxing music to help calm my nerves, but something told me to listen.  The first thing I heard was the words "come what may and love it."  I listened to and laughed at the stories Elder Wirthlin told.  This talk instantly became my favorite talk.  I probably could not tell you what any of the other talks were that weekend.

Well, I've recently been reading through several general conference talks and I re-read this one.  There were a couple of things that really stuck with me and I'd like to share them with you.

1)  "...in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result."

2)  "...the dial on the wheel of sorrow eventually points to each of us.  At one time, or another, everyone must experience sorrow.  No one is exempt...Learning to endure times of disappointment, suffering, and sorrow is part of our on-the-job training."

3)  "Adversity, if handled correctly, can be a blessing in our lives.  We can learn to love it."

4)  "As we look for humor, seek for the eternal perspective, understand the principle of compensation, and draw near to our Heavenly Father, we can endure hardship and trial."

As I have been thinking about these things, I have realized that some days I am not the happiest person and for the most part it is for very stupid reasons.  So, as a result, I have decided that I am going to change the way I look at things that happen from now on.  Whether it is an incredible day or my turn on the wheel of sorrow, I am going to try to remember that no matter what comes my way, I am going to (attempt) to love it or find the good that will come from it.

Anyone who wants to read the talk can follow the link I've put below.
